About this tool
About Audio Compressor
Reduce an audio file's storage size by encoding it as an MP3 from 48 to 320 kbps. Choose 48, 64 or 96 kbps for smaller files, 128 or 192 kbps for a balance of size and quality, or 256 and 320 kbps when preserving more audio detail matters.
This tool is available for browser processing. The main operation runs on your device when supported by the browser and selected format.
When to use Audio Compressor
Use it to prepare a voice recording, podcast, lecture or music preview for email, upload or storage. Compression is most useful when the original is too large for a message, form or storage limit.
How to use this tool
- Add the audio file and wait for it to load.
- Select the output bitrate and review the estimated size when available.
- Export a test result and listen for distortion, muffled highs or pumping artifacts.
- Download the accepted version and keep the original as an archive.
Choosing a bitrate
Use 48–96 kbps for speech where size is the priority, 128–192 kbps for general listening, and 256–320 kbps when music detail matters. The result depends on the source codec, sample rate and channel layout. Supported processing runs locally in the browser when available.
