Open AAC ConverterAbout this tool
Convert MP3 to an ADTS AAC stream when the receiving application specifically requires a .aac file. This output is different from M4A even though both can carry AAC audio.
This page uses AAC encoding with ADTS stream packaging. MP3 to M4A instead places AAC-LC audio in an MP4-family container. Renaming one extension to the other does not change that structure.
For example, a library import screen asking for M4A should be tested with the M4A output rather than a renamed .aac file. If the destination explicitly documents ADTS AAC, this page is the more relevant direction.
This page uses the converter’s preset AAC bitrate rather than exposing a bitrate control. Test a short recording for speech clarity, music transients and high-frequency detail. Transcoding cannot restore information the MP3 source has already lost.
The page does not offer separate sample-rate, channel or codec-profile selectors. Do not infer those capabilities from a generic conversion checklist.
This is a lossy-to-lossy transcode, not a remux or quality-repair operation. It also does not promise preservation of a music library's artwork or container-specific metadata.
Up to 100 files are accepted, each under 150 MB and no more than 500 MB in total. The queue runs sequentially, lists failed items and continues with the others. One successful result downloads directly; multiple successes can be packaged as ZIP or downloaded individually. Browsers may restrict consecutive downloads.
Compatible encoding runs on the device. Loading the engine requires a network connection, and long recordings may consume much more memory after decoding. Try smaller batches if resources are limited.
An AAC to WAV working copy can satisfy an editor's format requirement but will not restore lost detail. For the wider format decision, see MP3 vs WAV.

It encodes AAC audio and writes an ADTS .aac stream. It does not wrap the result in an M4A container.
Choose .aac when your destination specifically accepts an ADTS AAC stream. Use MP3 to M4A when it expects AAC in an MP4-family container.
No. The current AAC page uses its preset bitrate and does not provide bitrate, sample-rate or channel selectors.
No. Both are lossy codecs; another encoding generation may introduce additional loss. Keep the original and listen to a test section.
Up to 100, each under 150 MB, with a 500 MB combined browser limit. Practical capacity depends on available device memory.
The failure is listed and the queue continues with other files. Download successful results directly, as a ZIP, or as individual files where offered.
