Open M4A ConverterAbout this tool
Make an M4A copy when a music library, phone application or publishing system requests AAC audio in an MP4-family container. Keep the MP3 if it already meets the destination's requirements: changing formats is not an automatic quality upgrade.
M4A names a container rather than a promise of lossless sound. This converter encodes AAC-LC audio and packages it as .m4a. It does not offer an ALAC option.
The MP3 to AAC page uses a different package: an ADTS .aac stream. A receiver asking for .m4a may not accept that raw-stream alternative. Choose by the application's container requirement, not only the codec name.
The current M4A page uses its preset AAC encoding bitrate rather than exposing a bitrate selector. Test a short representative file: transcoding can introduce audible artifacts and cannot recover detail discarded by MP3.
No channel or sample-rate selector is exposed on this page. After downloading, inspect the actual duration and channels rather than assuming a specific output profile beyond the documented codec and container.
Artwork, chapters and tags are not guaranteed to survive completely. Keep the original until the file has been tested, especially if the library depends on those properties.
The queue accepts up to 100 files, each under 150 MB and no more than 500 MB combined. Processing is sequential. Failures are listed and remaining files continue; successful outputs can be saved as one ZIP or individual files. A single success downloads directly as M4A.
Compatible processing stays on your device. Network requests load the application and engine, while decoded audio can still require substantially more memory than the compressed source.
Retain MP3 for a destination that already supports it. Use MP3 to WAV if an editor specifically needs PCM audio; conversion still cannot reconstruct the original recording. See MP3 vs WAV for working-copy and delivery-copy tradeoffs.

Frequently asked questions
This tool writes AAC-LC audio into an MP4-family M4A container. It does not produce ALAC lossless audio.
No. Here M4A packages AAC audio in a container, while the separate AAC output uses an ADTS audio stream. Choose the packaging required by your application.
No. The current M4A converter uses its preset AAC bitrate and does not show a bitrate selector. The conversion cannot restore information already lost from an MP3.
Do not assume complete preservation of artwork, chapters, tags or other metadata. Check the downloaded M4A in the library or player where it will be used.
Files run sequentially. A failure is listed and the remaining files continue. Up to 100 files are accepted, each under 150 MB, with a 500 MB combined limit.
Download one M4A directly or choose ZIP or individual files for multiple successes. This is a file download, not a text-copy operation.
