Open 7Z ConverterAbout this tool
Convert a compatible ZIP into a real 7Z container when the receiving application specifically needs .7z. The browser first extracts the ZIP entries and then runs the bundled 7Z encoder; changing the filename extension alone would not produce that result.
Use ZIP to 7Z for a delivery requirement or an archive collection that standardizes on 7Z. Do not convert solely on the assumption that every 7Z must be smaller. Input contents, existing compression and container overhead all influence the final byte size.
For example, a ZIP of plain-text project files may behave differently from a ZIP full of already compressed JPG photos. Test a representative source and compare the actual downloaded size before processing other packages.
The input archive is processed as one job, not as part of a multi-ZIP batch. Loading the 7Z module can add time to the first conversion.
This tool uses the existing 7Z compression preset. It does not provide a compression-level slider or create a password-protected output. The current ZIP reader also does not decrypt encrypted ZIP sources despite the optional password field in the shared interface.
The source's compressed size is not its expanded memory cost. Extraction and encoding may need multiple buffers, so even a source under the interface limit may be too large for a phone or memory-constrained browser.
Regular file contents are repacked, not transcoded. Archive metadata, comments, empty directories, permissions and path details are not guaranteed to transfer exactly. Verify required files before deleting the original.
Use 7Z to ZIP for the reverse direction. Use ZIP Converter to compare TAR-family destinations, or ZIP Extractor when you only need the extraction-and-ZIP-download flow. Compatible processing stays on the device; loading the application and encoder requires network access.

Frequently asked questions
It extracts a compatible ZIP and creates a new 7Z archive using the bundled 7Z encoder. Renaming the extension would not convert the container.
No. Size depends on the input contents and existing compression. Already compressed images, audio or other archives may not become smaller.
It repacks extracted regular file data without converting document, image or audio formats. Paths and archive-specific attributes still need checking.
No. This direction uses the current 7Z encoding preset and does not expose output password or compression-level controls. Encrypted ZIP input is not supported by the current ZIP reader.
No. Add one source archive at a time, with a 250 MB per-file limit. Expanded data and output encoding can need much more memory.
Download the .7z, open it in a compatible receiving application, and compare entry count, names, paths and representative file contents with the original ZIP.
