About this tool

About Create ZIP File

Package loose files into one ZIP for sharing or handoff. This page creates an archive from the files you select; it does not first extract an existing archive or convert documents to another format.

Decide what belongs in the package

For example, combine a report, a small spreadsheet and a reference image into one delivery ZIP. Give the files distinct, meaningful names before adding them. The current picker selects files rather than an entire folder, so it does not promise to recreate your original directory hierarchy.

If you add an existing ZIP as a selected file here, it becomes a file inside the new package. It is not automatically unpacked or merged with the other entries. For changing an existing container, use Archive Converter.

Creation steps

  1. Keep original copies and give selected files unique names.
  2. Add up to 100 files, within the 250 MB per-file and 500 MB total limits.
  3. Start ZIP creation using the existing compression preset.
  4. Review the entry count and the displayed name summary.
  5. Download the ZIP and open it with the intended receiving application.

If different source folders contain files with identical names, rename them before selecting. Name collisions can overwrite entries during packaging; do not use this interface as a substitute for checking the final archive contents.

No encryption or compression-level controls

This creation page does not offer password protection or a compression-level setting. If your handoff requires encrypted delivery, use a suitable authorized tool rather than assuming a ZIP extension provides protection.

ZIP compression does not recode JPG, MP3 or other file formats, so it does not deliberately lower their media quality. However, files that are already compressed may shrink very little and can become larger after archive overhead is added.

Inspect the output before sharing

The displayed list is a summary of up to eight entries, not a complete archive editor. Check all required filenames and regular file contents in the downloaded ZIP. Keep originals until the recipient has accepted the package.

Compatible creation runs in your browser. Loading the application still needs the network, and holding input data plus the new archive can require more memory than the input byte total. For opening a package instead, use ZIP Extractor.

Frequently asked questions

Create ZIP File FAQ

What input does Create ZIP File need?

Select loose files that should become entries in one ZIP. This is different from opening an existing archive and converting its container.

Can I add a folder directly?

The current picker selects files, not an entire folder hierarchy. Do not assume it recreates the source directory tree.

Can I set a ZIP password or compression level?

No. This page uses its existing ZIP compression preset and does not expose password creation or a compression-level selector.

Will photos and audio be reduced in quality?

Files are stored as entry data rather than image or audio transcoding. Already compressed formats such as JPG or MP3 may gain little size reduction, or the ZIP may be larger.

What if two selected files have the same name?

Use unique names before adding them. Same-name entries can collide during packaging; this interface is not a conflict-resolution or folder-management tool.

What are the selection limits?

Up to 100 files, with a 250 MB per-file and 500 MB combined limit. Practical capacity depends on browser memory.
